About Dzata Cement.
Dzata Cement, a Tema-based 1.2Mt/yr bagging factory, expects to begin commercial production this month (June) 2021.
According to the Ghana News Agency, the unit cost US$100 million and comprises two lines of bagging and packaging equipment supplied by Haver & Boecker of Germany.
Later phases of the facility are expected to include:
- An increase in bagging operations to 2.4 million tonnes per year.
- And the building of two 3 million tonnes per year vertical roller mills.
The government has also established a new export and import law requiring licenses for imports from beyond the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) region to protect against surges in cement imports.
Ibrahim Mahama, the plant’s founder, is the brother of former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama.
The Ghana News Agency stated in November 2020 that Kofi Amoabeng, the former chief executive officer of UT Bank, claimed that loans to companies including Dzata Cement contributed to the bank’s insolvency in 2017.
